Dead by Daylight – Beginner Survivor Build

This is an optimal survivor build for new players and those who haven’t unlocked all characters and survivor perks. With my survivor build, you can easily get into the higher ranks, but it’s recommended for survivors up to rank 8
If you are new to the game, I advise you to start with Claudette Morel as your survivor.

This survivor build is primarily focused on making sure we don’t die early and farming blood points to unlock better perks for a more optimal build. I highly recommend new players to try out this build since it speeds up your blood points gain by a lot!

  • + Primary focus is staying alive and farming blood points.
  • + Very beginner-friendly.
  • + Easy to acquire all needed perks.
  • + Good for lower ranks.
  • – Lacks mobility in looping.

Perks for my beginner survivor build

Survivor Build

Unlock these perks first

Slot 1: Self-care (Teachable at LVL 40 Claudette Morel.)
It allows you to heal yourself at a 50% rate without using a medkit and increases the healing speed with a medkit. Very good in lower ranks due to other survivors not healing you that often. I recommend you pick Claudette as your main character when you are starting. Self-care has the highest priority in my survivor build.

Slot 2: Iron Will (Teachable at LVL 30 Jake Park.)
Iron Will decreases the sound you make when injured by 100%. Due to this, we want to unlock the very-rare version. After we have unlocked self-care. Iron will is perfect when you get out of a chase since the killer can’t hear your grunts.

And then work on unlocking the rest.

Slot 3: Balanced Landing (Teachable at LVL 30 Nea Karlsson.)
Removes the penalty when falling from higher heights by 75% and gives you a speed boost of 150% movement speed for 3 seconds. Balanced Landing is your best perk to get away from a chase. Drop from any height above ground level, and you trigger the movement speed buff to get away or make a great distance between you and the killer. Balanced Landing has a cooldown of 60 seconds, but with very-rare Balanced Landing, the cooldown is reduced to 40 seconds.

This is the only perk in this build that helps us get away from the killer, and I suggest unlocking it after you have Iron Will.

Slot 4: We’re Gonna Live Forever (Teachable at LVL 30 David King)
It gives you a token which increases your total blood points by 25% up to 100% if you have a very rare version of We’re Gonna Live Forever. You get your tokens by

  • Unhooking a survivor to safety (Takes 10 seconds after you unhook a survivor)
  • Protection hit – Take a hit from the killer while any survivor is near you.
  • Stun the killer while carrying a survivor – This is possible if you use a flashlight or drop a pallet on the killer.

We’re Gonna Live Forever is our primary way to earn extra blood points. Always unhook other survivors. We want to get maximum tokens before the game is over. If any survivor uses a bloody party streamer, we are looking at a 200% bonus after the game.

How to play my survivor build for beginners

When the game begins, you should find a generator and repair it. When a survivor is hooked, try to rescue them and make sure they don’t die in 10 seconds to get a safe hook rescue. To do this, heal them up or take a protection hit if the killer is nearby to get another token.

If you are getting chased, play around pallets, drop them when the killer is close and run around the pallet to buy time. When you take a hit, you want to get into the high ground and drop down to trigger Balanced Landing. When the killer is out of range, heal yourself up with Self-Care and repeat until the game is over.

Add-ons & Offerings

Survivor Build add-ons

For this Dead by Daylight build, we recommend that you play with a yellow medkit and stack healing speed and more charges add-ons. A good setup would look like this.

  • Yellow medkit + Abdominal Dressing + Gel Dressings
32 healing charges, considerably increase healing speed with a medkit. Allows you to heal twice fully.
  • Yellow medkit + Gauze Roll + Medical Scissors
36 healing charges, moderately increase healing speed with a medkit. Allows you to heal more than the first option but at the cost of healing speed. I recommend you use this when you can’t use the first example.
  • Yellow medkit + Abdominal Dressing + Surgical Suture
16 healing charges, insane healing speed, + extra blood points on a great skill check. Allows you to heal yourself or another survivor one time with a huge healing speed.

Update Log

17.10.2021 Updated for Dead by Daylight’s latest chapter “Hour of the Witch”

Hello! I'm W3YBACK and I formerly played Overwatch for NRG but have since 2018 moved on to Dead by Daylight. I write about builds and guides for DBDMeta. In-game I flex between killer and survivor and have been rank 1 with both since I started playing DBD.
